Work/Life 3: UPPERCASE

I'm thrilled to share my contribution to Work/Life 3: the UPPERCASE directory of illustration.

The book, the third in it's series by UPPERCASE, features the work of 100 international artists and illustrators. The theme for this edition is 'An Illustrated Life'.

As part of my contribution I was interviewed about my creative process and asked to create work that responds to my interests and story. Given that I was expecting my first child I was asked to create a collage about all the adventures I imagine I'll experience with them. For me this includes camping, trips to the seaside, birdwatching and artistic endeavours, of course.

You can order a copy of Work/Life 3 here. It is a really beautiful book, featuring quality content and inspirational stories from a range of exciting artists and illustrators.

Special thanks to Janine at UPPERCASE for featuring my work in this wonderful publication.

The First Cut at SeaCity Museum

I'm a bit late with this but The First Cut has just begun the last leg of it's tour at SeaCity Museum in Southampton.

This fantastic show features new and recent works of international contemporary artists who work with paper in revolutionary ways.

SeaCity is a great museum which tells the maritime history of the city of Southampton. My boyfriend, Adam Hayes, designed exhibition graphics at the museum so it is worth a visit for this alone.

The show runs up until January 12.

Flowers Bloom Eternal at National Centre for Craft and Design

Here are some photos from the paper and animation workshop I ran with Luke Whittaker (of State of Play Games) at the National Centre for Craft and Design.

The NCCD, which is a converted seed factory, wanted to create an animation based on seeds and growth. Participants were asked to create 3-dimensional flowers and leaves out of paper and old books and magazines. The models were lit and photographed from above, and transferred to the computer and into Flash. Luke then did the clever stuff and made a beautiful animation - which you can view on Vimeo here.

It was a really enjoyable workshop and a great collaborative effort from all involved. It was also brilliant to work with Luke again, having previously helped out on sets for State of Play's beautifully crafted forthcoming game Lumino City.

The animation will be screened at the Zygote Festival in October.

Perfect Cuts - UPPERCASE

In addition to creating the cover for the latest UPPERCASE I am also excited for my work to feature in this special collage issue.

Here are some pictures of the feature. The article was written by Portland based illustrator Laura Tarrish (who has written about my work before on paper-obsessed blog Felt & Wire)

Don't forget if you want to subscribe to this fantastic magazine you can make use of a special discount code which UPPERCASE kindly sent me to offer friends and family (see post below)

Recently I created the artwork for the cover of the latest issue of UPPERCASE.

As part of this, the team behind the magazine kindly sent me a discount code to offer friends and family to get $10 off a renewal or subscription. The code is 'contributor18' (please note, this code expires on August 1, 2013).

UPPERCASE is such a wonderful and inspiring magazine which I can't praise highly enough. I encourage you all to subscribe if you haven't already - you won't regret it!
